Joint HOSC on West Sussex and Brighton & Hove PCTs' consultation on Fit for the Future

Report on hospital proposals agreed by Joint Committee. ...The only option being proposed by the PCTs that the Committee feels might meet the needs of health services in West Sussex and surrounding areas is the 'Local General Hospital+ model - this would see one major general hospital and two local general hospitals in West Sussex (with either St Richard's or Worthing becoming the major general hospital)... press release issued 2 May 2008 - click here
The joint committee consists of representatives of West Sussex , Hampshire, East Sussex , Surrey , Portsmouth and Brighton and Hove HOSCs. The joint committee is required because the changes proposed would have the potential to be significant for residents of West Sussex and neighbouring authorities. The committee considers any proposals put forward from the perspective of the whole population that will be affected as well as the adequacy of the consultation process. East Sussex HOSC representatives on the joint HOSC are Cllr David Rogers (Vice-Chairman) and Cllr Diane Phillips.
The joint HOSC does not affect the opportunity for individual Local Authorities or members to comment on the proposals in their own right. Information about the PCTs consultation is available on the NHS website .
East Sussex HOSC is aware that the proposals are of great interest to local people, particularly in the west of the county. The committee is keen to ensure that they, and key stakeholders, have every opportunity to share their views with the PCT that is leading this consultation. East Sussex HOSC has already stressed to the West Sussex PCT Chief Executive the need to ensure adequate opportunities for residents in the west of East Sussex to participate in the consultation process.
