HOSC Rural Event
Investigating NHS delivery in rural East Sussex
Friday 27th November 2009
Venue: Weald Hall, Uckfield Civic Centre, Uckfield TN22 1AE
- The event focussed on how health services are planned, commissioned and delivered in East Sussex.
- It tackled some of the key challenges of providing health services in rural areas e.g. accessibility, economies of scale, viability, quality.
- Delegates had the opportunity to feedback and suggest areas for attention. The objective was to identify issues which HOSC might wish to take forward.
- Keynote speakers were Jeremy Leggett, Chief Executive, Action in Rural Sussex, Alice Webster, Head of Unscheduled Care, East Sussex Communty Health Services; and Mike Wood, Chief Executive, NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald and NHS Hastings and Rother.
- Vox pops on personal experiences of rural health services were presented by Val Young, East Sussex Local Involvement Network; Caroline Scotter, Action in Rural Sussex, Simone Oates, Occupational Therapist, Sue Davies, Senior Social Worker and Acting Team Leader, Hastings and Rother, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Clarissa Fabre, Buxted Surgery, and Dr Matt Bell, Bird in Eye Surgery, Uckfield
- In the afternoon small group discussions explored specific issues. The discussions employed the Scrutiny Cafe technique where participants were able to share experiences as well as write their comments on tablecloths.
A summary report has now been produced which includes key points from the presentations and discussions and issues HOSC will take forward through ongoing work.
