Approach
WHAT
DOES THE HEALTH SCRUTINY COMMITTEE DO?
- Health
scrutiny carries out independent checks:
- on
health services provided / commissioned by the NHS;
- on
council services that impact on local people’s
health and wellbeing (housing, social services, environmental
health etc)
- It
raises concerns; asks why decisions have been made that
way; and proposes alternative solutions if ”a better
way” seems to be a possibility.
WHAT WILL IT NOT DO?
- Health
scrutiny is not a complaints service - it cannot monitor
or investigate individual cases - it is there to look
at broad health issues.
- It
will not just focus on the NHS - it will look at improving
health services in the widest sense, and will respond to
local factors that impact on people’s health and wellbeing.
